I have created a concept map which focuses on topic one, week one. I used an online tool called bubbl.us which helps create clean and easy-to-read concept map surrounding any topic of your choice. Online concept mapping tools are valuable for information organisation, chunking and linking for transfer to long-term memory. I believe that online concept mapping is extremely beneficial for all students and their learning styles because it gives student's the opportunity to construct knowledge for themselves by organising learning content into a clear, concise concept map. Bubbl.us was quite easy to use and navigate which I think will help with the teaching process and student's understanding of how to use it. Another great feature of Bubbl.us is that you can save your work and edit later, this is great for student's learning as they can add to their already learnt knowledge. Bubbl.us can be used for any subject or topic in the classroom and is a wonderful tool to share!
Hi Kadee,
ReplyDeleteYour description of concept mapping sounds great and I can clearly see why it would be a valuable learning tool within the classroom. What are your thoughts on its use in collaborative learning? Do you think it could be used effectively in group work situations?
Hi Jasmine,
ReplyDeleteI believe that using the concept map tool is great for collaborative learning because all student's have different learning levels and styles, therefore student's can learn and help each other by adding knowledge to the concept map. Using this in a group situation would be great for peer to peer learning and social skills. Student's will also learn how valuable it is to share, work together and what it really means to collaboratively work together to learn and grow. I think these skills are a must for any child and their future attitude about learning collaboratively.
What are you thoughts?
Hi Kadee,
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with what you have said. Concept mapping seems that it can not only help students to grow academically but socially as well if used in a collaborative situation. An advantage of a concept map is that it could be started at the beginning of a unit and added to by students when new information is encountered thus making it a working document.
What are you thoughts?
